Design Engineer - Transportation

In this entry level civil engineering role, we are looking to add an EIT who will help foster our mission that All People Should Live in Safe, Sustainable and Beautiful Communities! The majority of your time will be spent assisting project managers and project engineers in design and construction phase activities on Transportation projects. This position is open to a May 2025 graduate or an experienced EIT with 1‑3 years of experience.

• Assist Project Engineers with design and construction phase activities on transportation projects.
• Perform basic design computations, preliminary layout and design, research and prepare rough drafts of preliminary reports and feasibility studies.
• Assist with project plans and specifications, preparing cost and quantity take‑off estimates.
• Assist with traffic corridor studies related to traffic operations, traffic safety, modal integration and access management.
• Assist with design of traffic control devices including traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, roadway lighting, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), work zones, and detours. Work may be applied to existing infrastructure or part of larger transportation improvement plans and specifications.
• Perform construction observation activities such as construction staking, documentation of activities, measuring and testing, providing general oversight, and interacting with contractors, subcontractors, residents and city staff.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
• Certified Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
• Prior experience in infrastructure design and/or construction observation.
• Working knowledge and skills in CAD and design software such as AutoCAD Civil3D and Micro Station.
• Developing knowledge of specialized traffic software (e.g., SYNCHRO, SIM Traffic, Arcady, VISSIM) is preferred.
• Requires frequent travel during the construction season.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. at the start of employment without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.

Salary Range: $58,000 - $90,000 depending on years of experience and credentials.
