Job DescriptionHermiston School District is seeking a full-time Special Education (Life Skills classroom) teacher for grades K-5 at Loma Vista Elementary School. The successful candidate will be properly licensed or have the ability to obtain licensure prior to the start of the school year, and possess the ability to teach Special Education in a Life Skills classroom. Position begins August 2026.
Special Education ModelThe Special Education model in the Hermiston School District focuses on the strengths of the individuals. The district employs facilitators to manage organization and paperwork, writing the IEPs. Teachers focus on teaching and working with students, attending IEP meetings to provide input but not writing IEPs. Support staff such as school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and bilingual staff fill additional roles to support the IEP qualification process.
The philosophy of the district is to place teachers in classrooms to positively impact students.
The Hermiston School District offers a competitive salary and benefits package including PERS retirement employer-paid pick-up, tuition reimbursement, and a comprehensive health and benefits package. A full year contract consists of 193 days, including 3 paid holidays.
The salary for is $50,894 – $101,497.
Special Education teachers receive a $2,500 stipend each school year for special education duties outside of the minimum contracted hours.
