Controls Technician, Data Center Capacity Delivery

Amazon Data Services drives the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure. The Controls Technician supports building management and electrical power monitoring systems across Amazon data centers, ensuring safety, security, and optimal capacity.
Key Responsibilities- Work field at data center sites, supporting multiple locations during deployment and service.
- Perform point-to-point checkouts between field devices and controllers.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and maintain instrumentation for BMS and EPMS.
- Configure and test network communications between third‑party devices and controllers or servers.
- Configure and calibrate sensors.
- Read and understand electrical schematics and control panel drawings.
- Supervise low‑voltage contractors installing wiring and field devices.
- Support commissioning and system‑level testing.
- Provide red‑lined drawings and as‑built verification.
- Assist root‑cause analysis during testing and commissioning.
- Maintain proper safety methodology for all site personnel.
- Work on‑call, rotating schedules, and after‑hours emergencies.
- Use ticketing systems, root‑cause analysis, and task prioritization.
- Walk to uneven terrain sites, use ladders, and work at heights.
- Use hands and fingers to handle and feel equipment.
- Lift up to 49 pounds or participate in group lifts of 50 pounds or more.
- Work shifts longer than eight hours.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- ITAR compliance required.
- Associate’s degree, trade certification, or equivalent technical training with at least 1 year of industrial/HVAC controls experience, OR 3 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Basic understanding of industrial control systems, including meters, devices, sensors, relays, and troubleshooting with hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
- 1+ year experience with low‑voltage controls, wiring, networking signals, electrical and mechanical systems, and operating systems.
- Availability to work non‑standard hours, rotating shifts, and overtime.
- ISA Certified Controls System Technician (CCST) Level I or higher.
- Experience using MQTT, BACnet, and/or MODBUS.
- 5+ years experience in controls/automation or related technical environment.
- Understanding of engineering documentation, electrical and mechanical diagrams, and SOPs.
- Experience working in data centers or mission‑critical environments.
- Knowledge of network design, low‑voltage copper/ fiber cabling.
- Prior AWS/Amazon experience.
- 4+ years military service.
