Agriculture Services Inspector 1 (Shipping Point) – Seasonal Part-Time Position located in Hermiston, Oregon.

Overview

The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) is seeking an Agriculture Services Inspector 1 to work in the Hermiston Shipping Point Inspection district. The role supports the department’s mission to safeguard Oregon’s agriculture, natural resources, economies, and communities through assistance, compliance, and market support. Responsibilities include shipping point inspections, sample collection, and field inspections related to the export of Oregon agricultural commodities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct shipping point inspections, phytosanitary inspections, and official sampling/witnessing.
  • Provide verification and certification services for Oregon commodities prior to shipment.
  • Issue phytosanitary certificates to support export of Oregon agriculture commodities.
  • Assist customers in moving agricultural products to markets.
  • Perform field inspections, sample processing, and surveys for exotic insects or pathogens as needed.
  • Support other Agriculture Services Division or agency activities.
Qualifications
  • One season of experience as a shipping point inspector aide.
  • OR one year of experience in a commercial fruit or vegetable growing, grading, or marketing enterprise.
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to regularly lift 50–60 lbs.
Requested Skills
  • General knowledge of Oregon agriculture and inspection processes.
  • Basic arithmetic skills.
  • Accurate written record keeping of inspection activities and fee collections.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
