Overview
Job Title:
Surgical Tech

Reports to:
OR Shift Charge, OR Assistant Manager, OR Manager, Director of Surgical Services.
Compensation:
Min $28.41/hr;
Max $51.92/hr.
Schedule:
Monday, Wednesday/Thursday, Saturday 6:30, 19:00 Holiday Rotation.
Employer pays Medical, Dental & Vision insurance premiums.
Preoperative Duties:
- Donning OR attire and personal protective equipment.
- Gather, check, and open supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure.
- Perform surgical scrub and don gown and gloves.
- Set up sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions.
- Perform initial instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator.
- Assist team members with gowning and gloving.
- Assist with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field.
- Participate in surgical site and patient verification during the time‑out procedure.
- Secure tubing, cords, and other sterile accessories.
- Maintain sterile field and report any contamination.
Intraoperative Duties:
- Prepare and anticipate additional instrumentation, equipment, and supplies during the procedure.
- Anticipate needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies.
- Label, measure, and pass medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions.
- Hold retractors or instruments as directed.
- Sponges or suction the operative site.
- Apply electrocautery to clamped or forceps on bleeders.
- Cut suture material as directed.
- Coordinate the camera or change out robotic arms/instruments during endoscopic surgery.
- Maintain highest standard of sterile technique.
- Perform additional counts as necessary.
- Prepare sterile dressings and/or immobilization devices.
- Prepare and pass off specimen(s) as appropriate.
- Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
- Assist other team members with terminal cleaning of the room.
- Assist in prepping the OR for the next patient.
- Participate in debriefing and quality improvement practices.
Postoperative Duties:
- When SPD is unavailable, decontaminate instruments/equipment.
- Assist with post‑procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and prepare room(s) for subsequent patients.
Other Duties:
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
- Participate in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to scrub person activities.
- Assist with stocking chores.
- Support hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in required education for DNV programs as applicable.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Associate degree or national certification; six months’ clinical experience preferred.
- Exposure to blood, sharp instruments, body fluids, tissue, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions.
- Ability to stand and walk for extensive periods.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including call hours.
- Manual and finger dexterity; hand and eye coordination.
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
- Hourly rate: $28.41 to $51.92.
