Mammography Technologist
Day Shift, Monday-Friday from 10 am to 6:30 pm. Provides healthcare services by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. Demonstrates breast anatomy through medical imaging techniques for interpretation or intervention by a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of services, maintaining a demeanor complementary to medical ethics.
Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of procedures. Performs diagnostic radiography procedures and corroborates patient's clinical history with the procedure, assuring information is documented. Prepares patients for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety. Selects and operates radiography equipment to achieve desired results. Positions patients and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient comfort.
Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examinations. Determines radiographic technique exposure factors, minimizing exposure to patients and others. Evaluates images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded. Verifies informed consent for and assists a licensed practitioner with interventional procedures. Practices aseptic techniques as necessary. Assumes responsibility for the physical and emotional needs of patients during procedures. Prepares, identifies, and/or administers contrast media and/or medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, as permitted.
Supports the mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures of the organization. Participates in required education relevant to the position. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
The position requires sufficient auditory ability to detect and respond to various sounds, including patient alarms and verbal communication. Effective communication skills are essential for interaction with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Visual acuity is necessary for observing patient conditions, reading documentation, and distinguishing colors for clinical purposes. Tactile perception is important for assessing physical characteristics during patient care. Motor coordination is required for reaching, grasping, handling, and performing tasks necessary for the use of medical equipment.
The role involves occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling when assisting patients or accessing equipment. Walking and standing are typically continuous throughout the shift. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds independently and frequently push, pull, carry, or reposition objects weighing up to 25 pounds. There may be occasional lifting or transferring of individuals weighing over 100 pounds, utilizing appropriate lifting techniques and assistance as needed.
Working Conditions:
This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment. The work environment may be subject to variable indoor temperatures and involves frequent exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials. All staff are expected to follow appropriate safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. The healthcare environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring quick responses to changing circumstances, including emergencies.
The work setting involves multiple simultaneous demands and varying levels of noise due to medical equipment and patient needs.
