Interventional Radiology Technologist
The Interventional Radiology Technologist supports diagnostic and interventional procedures through the expert operation of fluoroscopic imaging equipment. Demonstrates sterile technique and procedural workflow coordination. Works collaboratively with healthcare providers to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Maintains strict adherence to radiation safety policies and departmental protocols. Operates fluoroscopic and radiographic imaging systems during diagnostic and interventional procedures. Ensures optimal image quality, positioning, and equipment settings based on procedural needs.
Verifies imaging readiness, room setup, and equipment functionality prior to each case. Enters charges into the electronic health records system when necessary. When assigned as a scrub technologist, functions using sterile techniques to assist during interventional procedures. Prepares and organizes sterile instruments and materials, anticipating physician needs. Acts as the primary monitor technologist during procedures, recording hemodynamic data and procedural events.
Communicates real-time findings to the procedural team. Assists with patient preparation, positioning, and connecting monitoring equipment. Conducts patient identification, procedure verification, and timeout processes. Provides support during sedation under the direction of nurses and medical staff. Performs vascular access management and assists with sheath pulls as needed. Collaborates with team members to manage contrast allergies within pre-procedure discussions. Assist with managing supplies, restocking procedure rooms, and tracking expiration dates.
Supports room turnover efficiency and assists with post-procedure cleanup. Performs basic daily and weekly equipment checks to ensure all equipment is functioning properly. Reports and documents malfunctioning equipment and assists with service calls. Ensures devices are cleaned, charged, and stored properly. Recognizes the rights and responsibilities of all patients, conveying empathy. Communicates effectively with culturally diverse patient conditions essential for successful procedure completion.
