Plant Utility Trainee – Hermiston, OR
The Plant Utility Trainee position is a full‑time role focused on sanitation, line inspections, and product rework. The successful candidate will perform line break sanitation activities, remove stagnant product from equipment, mix and handle cleaning chemicals, and conduct end‑of‑cycle cleaning. The trainee will inspect raw and finished product for foreign material and defects, rework cased product through bag blending and tote sorting, and maintain a safe, clean work environment.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate knowledge of cleaning agents, their uses, and correctly mix chemicals.
- Identify hazards and follow first aid procedures associated with chemicals.
- Clean equipment using established standard operating procedures and equipment such as high‑pressure hoses, ladders, air hoses, and hot water units.
- Remove cases from pallets and rework product through bag blending, tote sorting, or case sorting.
- Manually inspect raw and finished product for foreign material and quality defects, removing and disposing defective product.
- Perform firewatch duties when required.
- Actively participate in Company Safety and Good Manufacturing Practice programs.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (preferred).
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
- Pass practical performance and written sanitation exam.
- Lifting up to 40 pounds and performing frequent bending, stooping, twisting, and turning.
- Standing, walking, and working both on the ground and in or under equipment.
- Operating sanitation suits in environments ranging from hot to cold temperatures.
- Working with noisy, hot, cold, wet, slippery conditions, and exposure to dust, fumes, smoke, humidity, oils, and allergens.
- Using manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance to work at ground level and in high places.
- Operating work‑related equipment and maintaining close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision.
- Exposure to environments with temperatures from
-20°F to 35°F in freezer operation and 37°F to 90°F in plant operation.
