Regional Community Coordinator

The Contingent is a 501(c)(3) venture non-profit focused on sparking and holding initiatives to empower leaders and mobilize community for the common good. Since our inception, we have leveraged the perspectives, skills and needs of people of color and low-income community members to challenge the status quo and positively transform our communities. We ask hard questions. We take risks. And we link arms with our neighbors, including business partners, faith communities, and government agencies.

The Regional Community Coordinator serves as a connector, catalyst, and executor dedicated to strengthening and expanding community partnerships across Eastern Oregon, including Umatilla, Morrow, Malheur, Grant, Harney, and occasionally Union, Baker, and Wallowa counties. Children and families impacted by foster care in these rural communities often face limited and fragmented support systems, leaving resource families isolated and critical needs unmet.

This role focuses on grassroots relationship building, collaborative problem solving, and hands-on execution to unite organizations, businesses, faith communities, and local leaders around a shared, data-informed vision for supporting vulnerable children and families. Through trust-based partnerships, the coordinator will increase the coordination and visibility of existing resources, identify service gaps and opportunities, and help communities develop sustainable support for resource families.

Because success in rural partnership work depends heavily on trust, presence, and established credibility, the position requires someone who lives locally and already has strong relationships across the region.

Duties & Responsibilities:

You are a trusted relationship builder with deep roots in Eastern Oregon and a strong understanding of the region's communities, culture, and dynamics. You bring credibility across sectors, communicate with humility and clarity, and are energized by bringing people together around a shared purpose. You are both strategic and practical—someone who can build trust, navigate complexity, and move collaborative work forward with consistency, care, and follow-through.

What You Will Do

You will identify and cultivate new partnerships with local faith communities, businesses, and civic organizations, align local partners around shared goals, and help translate vision into coordinated action. This role will lead grassroots outreach, support regional collaboration, and drive implementation alongside community and organizational partners. You will serve as a connector and catalyst—helping communities identify gaps and opportunities and create tangible impact for children and families.

Community Organizing and Outreach

  • Lead grassroots resource parent and respite provider recruitment efforts using creative, relationship-based approaches.
