The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse provides direct and individualized nursing care to adult patients before and after surgical procedures. Responsibilities include assessing patient conditions, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The nurse responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or treatment response, initiates the computerized Plan of Care on admission, performs general nursing duties in all departments under appropriate supervision, accepts direction, control, and planning of care activities, evaluates and decides based on verifiable criteria, works independently, respects patient confidentiality, conveys empathy, fosters teamwork, communicates effectively across socioeconomic backgrounds, incorporates guest relations, and provides culturally and age-sensitive care.
Agency nurses may be floated to other departments. The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures, participates in required education for DNV programs, and performs related duties as assigned.
- Education:
Graduate of an accredited nursing school (BSN or MSN preferred). - Certification:
Current RN license in Oregon; BLS, ACLS, and PALS required. - Preferred: CMSRN certification, previous medical-surgical nursing experience, CRASE training (required if assignment > 6 months).
- Evidence of continuing education appropriate for skill level and area of practice.
