  • Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
  • Current BLS (AHA/ARC) certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • PALS or ENPC certifications
  • ACLS certification
  • RCIS/RCES certification
  • Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position
Summary of Role

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Nurse provides specialized care to patients undergoing minimally invasive procedures in the IR lab. Responsibilities include pre‑procedure assessment, sedation administration, intra‑procedure monitoring, staff collaboration, post‑procedure recovery, documentation and adherence to safety protocols.

Essential Work Functions
  • Perform comprehensive pre‑procedure assessments, including reviewing medical history and lab results
  • Educate patients and families about IR procedures, sedation, and post‑procedure care
  • Administer and monitor moderate sedation, ensuring patient comfort and safety
  • Monitor hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythms, and oxygenation levels during procedures
  • Assist physicians during procedures, ensuring proper positioning, sterile technique, and instrument handling
  • Recognize and respond to complications, escalating care when necessary
  • Provide post‑procedure monitoring and recovery care, including pain management and patient discharge education
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments, medications, and procedural details
  • Collaborate with IR technologists, radiologists, and other healthcare team members to deliver coordinated care
  • Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Required Essential Skills
  • Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English
  • Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
  • Physical ability: stationary position, moving equipment 50‑100 lbs, push, pull, bend
  • Interpersonal skills: work effectively with diverse personnel, maintain professionalism
  • Technical skills: fine manipulation, assist with procedures, use department equipment
  • Mental requirements: cope with frequent public contact, meet deadlines under pressure, work under supervision or independently, handle irregular activity schedules, maintain concentration to detail
  • Sensory requirements: visual acuity and effective communication
