Min: $21.74 Max: $33.30. Recovery Room Mon - Fri 9:30am-6:00pm.
The C.N.A./Ward Clerk works under the direct supervision of the departmental Registered Nurses, providing basic nursing care to surgical patients. All nursing care is within the scope of C.N.A. certification and in accordance with hospital policy and procedure. The role also delivers professional, efficient customer service to all patients, guests, co‑workers, and physicians’ offices via telephone, email, and fax communication. The Clerk supports the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Good Shepherd Health Care System.
Responsibilities- Assist the patient with ADLs such as dressing, toileting (using bedpans, urinals, and commodes), and ambulation.
- Assist the patient with personal hygiene, including peri‑care and catheter care.
- Assist with safe patient transferring and to/from department.
- Perform surgical prep such as clipping, nasal swabs, and applications of SCDs.
- Collect and label specimens appropriately.
- Measure and record blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, and oxygen status.
- Ensure patient safety by using proper transferring techniques and following infection prevention procedures.
- Meet documentation guidelines in the EMR.
- Professionally communicate with patients and families.
- Report significant changes in patients’ conditions to appropriate nursing staff.
- Maintain and update patient records and charts.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Process surgical admissions and discharges in the system.
- Have knowledge of medical terminology.
- Maintain an organized nursing station.
- Answer telephones and direct calls appropriately.
- Relay messages between staff, physicians, departments, and families.
- Notify surgical teams of updates, consults, or urgent changes.
- Participate in required education for DNV programs as applicable to the position.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Education:
High School diploma or GED. - Licenses/ certifications/ registrations: CNA License, Basic Life Support certificate.
- Experience:
No prior experience required; preferred one year experience as a ward clerk/CNA. - Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and EHR (EPIC).
- Prior experience in customer service.

Perform varying duties efficiently, promote teamwork, and incorporate guest relations into daily activities.
The position requires sufficient auditory ability to detect and respond to patient alarms and verbal communication. Visual acuity is necessary for observing patient conditions, reading documentation, monitors, and distinguishing colors for clinical purposes such as identifying medications. Tactile perception is important for assessing physical characteristics. Motor coordination is required for reaching, grasping, handling, and performing fine motor tasks. The role involves occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling when assisting patients or accessing equipment.
Walking and standing are continuous throughout the shift. The Clerk must lift independently to 50 pounds and frequently push, pull, carry, or reposition objects or patients weighing up to 25 pounds, with occasional assistance for individuals over 100 pounds using proper lifting techniques or mechanical aids. Patience for sitting for long periods is also required. The environment is indoor healthcare with variable temperatures, frequent exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment, requiring PPE and safety protocols.
The setting can be fast‑paced and unpredictable, demanding responsiveness to changing circumstances and high‑pressure situations.
