Emergency Room Registered Nurse

The Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals experiencing medical emergencies. This role involves triaging, assessing, and providing immediate care in a fast-paced environment. ER RNs work collaboratively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver rapid care for a wide range of medical conditions, from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies. The ER RN is responsible for assessing, delegating, coordinating, and evaluating the nursing care provided.

They ensure the provision of quality care through the utilization of the nursing process, established standards of care, policies, and procedures. This RN is responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned to them.

Key responsibilities include conducting thorough assessments of patients upon arrival, including vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms. The RN prioritizes patients based on the severity of their conditions, ensuring that critical cases are attended to first. They administer medications, intravenous fluids, and treatments as per physician orders. Emergency procedures such as wound care and splinting are performed in accordance with established protocols.

Continuous monitoring of patients' vital signs and responses to treatments is essential, with adjustments to interventions made as needed. Collaboration with the medical team, including physicians and support staff, is a critical component of this role. Accurate documentation of patient information, treatment plans, and responses to care is required in electronic health records or paper charts. Providing patients and families with information regarding diagnoses, procedures, and follow-up care instructions is part of the patient education responsibilities.

Emergency response duties involve responding to rapid response calls, code blue situations, or any critical situation requiring immediate intervention. Patient advocacy ensures that the patient's rights, dignity, and preferences are respected at all times while providing care. Following all infection control protocols to minimize the risk of infection for patients and healthcare staff is mandatory. Participation in the ongoing evaluation of care quality and suggestions for improving processes or procedures to optimize patient outcomes are encouraged.
