The Security Assistant Manager supports the leadership and daily operations of the Security Department, ensuring a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, visitors, and hospital property. The role assists in supervising security personnel, maintaining regulatory compliance, coordinating emergency preparedness, and promoting continuous improvement in security operations.
Responsibilities- Provide direct supervision to the Security Officer Lead and team.
- Oversee and approve schedules to ensure staffing levels and operational efficiency.
- Act as point of contact for officers and leads, providing support and direction for incidents.
- Ensure continuous security coverage by coordinating staffing resources and leadership support.
- Assist the Facilities Manager in developing and implementing quality assurance programs.
- Collaborate in strategic planning, policy development, and goal setting.
- Support training and professional development of the security team.
- Oversee departmental training compliance, certifications, and evaluations.
- Participate in departmental meetings and communicate relevant information.
- Represent the department in hospital committees, safety meetings, and interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Patrol buildings, grounds, and premises to deter and detect hazards, theft, vandalism, unauthorized entry.
- Monitor visitors and personnel, confronting and questioning unauthorized individuals.
- Identify and report safety hazards, fire risks, and security violations promptly.
- Respond to inquiries from hospital personnel, patients, students, visitors.
- Provide physical restraint of psychiatric patients safely and appropriately.
- Lead and participate in security investigations, gather evidence, and document accurately.
- Review and analyze incident reports for trends and recommend corrective measures.
- Prepare detailed incident reports and essential documentation.
- Secure or unlock offices, facilities, and designated areas per schedule or request.
- Secure patient valuables and lost‑and‑found items, maintaining precise logs.
- Control parking and traffic flow on hospital premises, enforcing regulations.
- Assist with care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.
- Assist in budget monitoring, procurement, and resource allocation.
- Maintain accurate departmental records, reports, and files.
- Enhance professional growth through educational programs, in‑service meetings, workshops.
- Support the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in required education for DNV programs as applicable.
- Assist in coordination and execution of emergency preparedness drills and hospital‑wide response initiatives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required;
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Security Management, or related field preferred. - Licenses &
Certifications:
Valid state driver’s license;
Unarmed Guard and Supervisory Manager certification from the Oregon Dept. of Public Safety and Security required or shall be obtained upon hire;
Current CPR certification;
Current MOAB or equivalent de‑escalation/restraint certification required upon hire. - Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressive security operations experience, preferably in healthcare or complex institutional setting; previous supervisory or lead role highly preferred.

Leadership, organization, scheduling, computer proficiency (Microsoft Office), excellent verbal and written communication, conflict resolution, observation, critical thinking, problem solving, ability to work independently, confidentiality, security best practices, emergency response, understanding of regulations; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
The position requires sufficient auditory and visual acuity, tactile perception, motor coordination, ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk, stand continuously; lift up to 50 lbs independently, carry or reposition objects or patients up to 25 lbs, occasionally lift individuals over 100 lbs with proper techniques; ability to sit for long periods.
Working ConditionsPrimarily indoors in a healthcare environment; exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, medical equipment; variable indoor temperatures; frequent noise; fast‑paced and unpredictable setting requiring quick response to emergencies.
Compensation and Hours40 hours per week. Salary range: USD $70,561.92 per year (base) to USD $ per year (total). Security Day, 01‑8063.
