Millwright
This role offers the opportunity to work as a skilled Millwright with a mechanical contractor, installing, maintaining, repairing, and dismantling heavy machinery and mechanical systems across a wide range of industrial and construction environments. You will support projects at manufacturing plants, food and beverage facilities, energy stations, infrastructure projects, and landfills, ensuring equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently.
Responsibilities- Install and assemble machinery and mechanical systems using blueprints, layout plans, and precision tools.
- Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues, identify root causes, and repair or replace defective parts and components.
- Align and calibrate machinery using laser alignment tools, plumb bobs, micrometers, and other precision instruments to ensure equipment operates within specifications.
- Safely dismantle, disassemble, and relocate equipment using hoists, cranes, rollers, and other material-handling devices.
- Fabricate and modify components, including cutting, grinding, and welding structural and stainless steel as required.
- Install and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems, including conduit and related components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and layout plans to complete installations and upgrades accurately.
- Support upgrades and retrofits of existing machinery and systems to improve performance and reliability.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.
- Follow OSHA and site-specific safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and participation in required medical evaluations.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including logs of maintenance activities, inspections, and inventory of parts and tools.
- Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and other trades to coordinate work and complete projects on schedule.
- Perform general labor and construction-related tasks as needed to support mechanical and fabrication projects.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in industrial or mechanical settings.
- Proficiency in installing, maintaining, repairing, and dismantling heavy machinery and mechanical systems.
- Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret mechanical drawings and layout plans.
- Experience with laser alignment tools and other precision instruments for alignment and calibration.
- Mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues efficiently.
- Welding skills, including MIG welding, with experience working on structural and stainless steel components.
- Fabrication skills, including cutting, grinding, and assembly of mechanical structures.
- Hands-on experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and related mechanical systems.
- Ability to install and bend conduit and perform basic plumbing-related tasks as required for mechanical installations.
- Competence using a wide range of hand tools and power tools for installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety training and adherence to safety standards and procedures.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail in all tasks.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills to work collaboratively on job sites.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in industrial and construction environments.
Skills & Qualifications
- Red Seal certification (Canada) or equivalent trade certification is highly valued.
- Additional safety training and certifications beyond OSHA are an asset.
- Experience in construction, carpentry, and general labor in support of mechanical projects.
- Experience in maintenance technician roles within industrial, manufacturing, or construction settings.
- Experience with upgrades and retrofits of existing machinery and systems.
- Comfort working across diverse environments such as manufacturing plants, food and beverage facilities, energy stations, infrastructure projects, and landfills.
