Major Functions:
Facilitate communication between persons who are deaf or hard of hearing and hearing individuals within the educational setting.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Interpret for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the educational setting, as outlined by the IEP;
- Communicate through sign-language or speech for the student to teacher and teacher to student;
- Collaborate with teacher of the hearing impaired;
- Collaborate with special education and general education staff regarding academic supports and to adapt classroom/school activities to promote participation of the deaf or hard of hearing student;
- Encourage interaction with hearing peers by modeling appropriate social strategies;
- Prepare for classroom academic content;
- Participate in IEP meetings when appropriate.
- Adhere to the Mississippi Code of Ethics
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy of all Desoto County Schools' records
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Registered with MS Office on Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Mississippi Provisional Certification, Q & A certification, or RID certification
