Job OverviewNova Space Solutions (NSS) is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join our PLM group within the Engineering Services Department team at NASA John
C. Stennis Space Center, Mississippi and NASA Michoud Assembly Facility, Louisiana. The role resides in the COSMIC Design Engineering Department and is responsible for maintaining fire protection design control and providing technical support.
Work Model: Onsite.
Responsibilities- Creating, checking, or otherwise preparing design documentation related to fire protection and other related systems, including Statements of Work, Construction Specifications, Drawings, Engineering Studies, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, and other Engineering Documents as requested.
- Estimating probable cost of construction for assigned design projects.
- Assisting in the preparation and estimating of design project budgets and schedules, and providing deliverables to the customer within said budgets and schedules.
- Peer reviewing design projects prepared by other engineers within the department.
- Maintain a regular work schedule.
- Other duties as assigned.
- ABET accredited BS Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a Mississippi P.E. in Fire Protection Engineering.
- Minimum of five years of experience working as an FPE, including cost estimates, drawings, and specifications.
- Equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Intermediate level computer skills necessary for daily activities, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, simple graphics, fire dynamic simulation, and a working knowledge of computer aided drafting.
- Manage day‑to‑day contacts with internal and external clients using experience and technology to meet expectations.
- Perform research and documentation for internal and external distribution.
- Experience designing Fire Detection Systems, Voice Evacuation, and Mass Notification systems.
- Experience with Monaco wireless transceivers and Siemens Insight Systems preferred.
- Experience designing fire sprinkler systems, Clean Agent Fire Suppression Systems, and Deluge Systems.
- Experience working in Hazard Rated Areas, Class I, Division II, and Group D preferred.
- Experience reviewing plans for compliance with the Life Safety Code.
- Knowledge working with fire pumps.
- Working knowledge of the International Building Code, Fire Code, Mechanical Code, Plumbing Code, and NFPA Codes & Standards.
- Knowledge of asbestos and Lead‑based Paint handling.
- History of working with an AHJ, Fire Department, and Safety Staff preferred.
- Membership in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, grade Professional.
- Preferred: A P.E. in Fire Protection Engineering.
- Effective written and verbal communication, including oral presentations.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
- Provide certified Birth Certificate, Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire.
- Ability to communicate in English both verbally and written.
- Valid Real r’s license.
- Pass a Pre‑Employment background check and drug screen test.
- Clean, neat, professional personal appearance.
