Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, maintaining constant observation of patients and notifying nursing personnel of changes in behavior or status.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, patients, family, and visitors.
- Perform all functions delegated by the nursing staff and adhere to policies and procedures.
- Support the plan of care as delegated by staff nurse, maintaining a clean and safe environment in the patient care area.
- Provide patient care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
- Complete documentation of patient-related tasks.
- Adapt communication style to the specific patient population, respecting privacy and obtaining permissions as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: hospital and telemetry experience.
- Required:
Current Louisiana CNA certification. - Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association within 60 days from hire.
- Obtain Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) within 60 days from hire.
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).
Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those for sedentary work. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue, and have an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.
The incumbent works in a patient care area with potential exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste.
