Purpose of Role
The Melting pourer is responsible for the safe and controlled operation of all ladle related tasks. This includes inspection and maintenance of the ladle refractory. He/she is responsible for several key tasks in the melting department: pours hot molten metal from the ladle to the sand molds, identifies the next heat to be poured and verifies the number of molds in that heat, rolls ladles over to transfer the metal from the ladle to the AOD vessel and slag at different times, takes samples from the ladle, takes temperatures from the ladle and prepares the ladles for the next heat.

- Rebuild pouring ladles per procedures for next heat.
- Set the stopper rod in the ladle and check for fit.
- Hold the transfer ladle steady with a long rod while the heat is being tapped from the furnace.
- Collect a sample of metal from the ladle to be analyzed by the lab.
- Roll the ladle over to pour the molten metal into the AOD vessel.
- Pour molten metal from ladle to molds.
- Maintain the condition of the transfer ladle by chipping the solidified slag.
- Inspect ladle condition prior to and after use.
- Maintain housekeeping to 6S standards and checklists for areas of responsibility.

- Ensure all pours meet production and quality requirements.
