Overview
A Journeyman Pipefitter performs and knows how to fabricate butt weld pipe, threaded pipe, and socket weld pipe; can identify and install above, underground, and specialty piping, hangers and supports, valves, and inline specialties; and understands how to perform stress relieving aligning and testing. A Journeyman Pipefitter masters mathematical functions and knows their applications to pipe fitting. They can also properly identify and master hand tools, power tools, and equipment, including equipment for rigging and their procedures.
OverviewOf Primary Duties
- Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and sketches to repair, modify, install, and dismantle various pipes and fittings.
- Performs fabrication, assembly, and testing of piping systems and components.
- Pipe fitting and brazing to join, fabricate, or repair piping and associated hangers and supports.
- Proficient in bending pipe.

- Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices
- Report all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
- Required to wear and maintain personal PPE.
- Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
- Participate in workplace inspections.
- Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
- Participate in required and assigned training.
- Provide suggestions to improve Safety.
- Present a mature approach to working safely.
- Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.
- Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.

Level III:
- Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related pipe fitting experience
- NCCER Pipefitter journeyman certification
Level II
- Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related pipe fitting experience
- NCCER “Performance” Pipefitter journeyman verification
- Other verified experiences or certifications with pipe fitting experience
Level I
- Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related pipe fitting experience
- Read ISO's, Blueprints, P&IDs, and Shop Drawings
- Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation
- Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
- Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights

Physical requirements for this role may include but are not limited to:
- All weather conditions at varying temperatures
- Work at varying elevations
- Will work in windy and dusty environments
- Moderate to high noise levels
- The project site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools
- Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms
- Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above
- Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
- Ability to talk and hear to communicate
- Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
- Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
