This new role “Construction Safety Manager” is for an experienced Health and Safety Specialist, H&S Engineer, or H&S Manager who will support AWS Data Center Planning and Delivery (DCPD) programs. Internally, you will partner with DCPD teams such as Real Estate, Due Diligence, Permitting, Energy, Water, Pre‑Construction, Construction, Commissioning, Security and Procurement to achieve health and safety goals and improve our safety culture.

Externally, you will engage with General Contractors and AWS Suppliers to confirm business expectations for H&S and look for ways to continually improve H&S of our contracted services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Influence program development, framework and strategy; deploy programs covering H&S elements of leadership, planning, support, operational controls, continuous improvement, performance management, and ensuring businesses comply with jurisdictional and AWS Safety Management Program requirements.
  • Review due diligence risk assessments with real estate, pre‑construction, and construction operations on H&S aspects of the AWS management program.
  • Coordinate with DCPD managers to prioritize H&S in planning and execution across all phases of projects.
  • Ensure and monitor General Contractors and AWS deployment vendors’ compliance with onboarding requirements in Avetta.
  • Perform campus H&S kickoff sessions and review General Contractor and AWS deployment vendor Construction Safety Management Plans.
  • Document data and anecdotes in standard reporting tools (Weekly Business Reviews, Monthly Project Reviews) for DCPD and H&S leadership teams.
  • Manage 3rd‑party/internal H&S resources on DCPD projects (weekly business reviews, monthly project reviews).
  • Identify improvement opportunities and partner with Data Center Health and Safety operational team on regional issues affecting construction and operations handover phases.
  • Audit projects, analyze data for trends, risks, and opportunities, and report at project, regional, and governance levels.
  • Conduct regular site visits with H&S resources, construction managers, and operational teams.
  • Host project‑specific and regional contractor and internal team H&S kickoff sessions and annual performance reviews.

Day in the Life

This is a field‑based role, requiring five days per week at field construction and retrofit projects in the greater area, with occasional domestic travel.

You will be integrated with a global network of H&S professionals and play a key role in deploying mechanisms that manage H&S while developing competency and ownership of safety within the business.

About the Team

Data Center Planning and Delivery owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. You’ll collaborate with engineers, supply‑chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while supporting AWS’s growth.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of compliance, audit, or risk management experience.
  • 5+ years of program or project management experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles or Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent.
