Airbus is looking for a Summer Intern - Business Development to join our Customer Services Business Development team based in Herndon, VA.
As a Business Development Intern, you will operate at the intersection of internal transformation and external market strategy, helping our team map the path forward for new initiatives. Rather than routine administrative work, you will be handed an opportunity, a goal without a clear roadmap, and tasked with helping us build the strategic exploration, architecture, and / or operational design required to move it forward.
Meet the TeamThe Regional Services Business Development team operates as internal consultants for Airbus Americas Customer Services, specializing in initiatives that carry high ambiguity and require strategic definition before execution. Our mission is to develop the structural and commercial future of Airbus Customer Services. We transform strategic goals into revenue-ready deliverables through strategic design, internal transformation, and commercial enablement. We don't just execute on predefined tasks, we define the problems, build the blueprints, and pilot the solutions.
Your Working EnvironmentThe Washington, D.C. metro area is home to multiple Airbus offices:
In our nation’s capital you will find the Airbus Experience Center, a collection of interactive, multimedia exhibitions highlighting the extensive role the company plays in the aviation, aerospace and defense industries in the U.S. and around the world. The D.C. area is also home to our regional corporate headquarters – located adjacent to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) - it makes flying in a breeze!
- Strategic Architecture & Organizational Design:
Help define "Phase Zero" problems by architecting strategy for new services or internal systems. You will help turn ambiguous starting points into clear problem statements and "to-be" roadmaps. - Market Scouting & External Exploration:
Conduct competitive benchmarking and investigate new external trends in commercial aviation services to build validated "go-to-market" hypotheses. - Strategy to Execution:
Act as an internal consultant to help redesign workflows, resolve friction points (tech, operational, etc.), and build the internal processes necessary to support new growth. - Commercial Viability:
Designing the value proposition, pricing models, and prototypes to prove the commercial value of a new service or product.
- Ability to work onsite in Herndon, VA for the duration of the summer internship.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or Business Administration.
- Authorized to work in the US without current, or future, visa sponsorship.
You possess a strong mix of business acumen and technical curiosity. While no specific coding languages or aerospace engineering tools are required, you should be comfortable working alongside engineering, operational, and sales teams to synthesize complex information.
Comfortable with AmbiguityYou thrive when handed a problem without a clear solution. You know how to ask the right questions to define the "What" and the "Why" before jumping into the "How".
Strategic & Operational MindsetYou can look at the "Outside-In" (market trends and customer needs) just as easily…
