With Herndon camps you’ll build your resume and your professional skills by gaining experience in leadership, decision‑making, and communication. Summer camps are a renowned springboard to progressively responsible full and part‑time positions.

• Under the direction of the Camp on the Go Director, Camp on the Go Leaders support a mobile camp program that delivers recreational activities to underserved communities in the Town of Herndon. Leaders confidently implement daily activities, including games, sports, crafts, and special recreation events, in an outdoor setting and may also support in‑house camp programs as needed.
• Candidates should be fun‑loving, energetic, and responsible.
• Counselors should feel confident implementing daily activities such as games, sports, crafts, and special recreation events.

• Applicants must enjoy working with children and working outdoors.
• Previous camp experience is preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification and bilingual skills (Spanish preferred) are desirable.
• A valid driver’s license, the ability to safely operate a Town‑owned vehicle and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, are required.

Hours and day may vary based on program needs.

Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale Avenue

$300 gross (before taxes) (PTF/Seasonal staff only) for staff hired for full day camps (Odyssey, Teen Discovery)

$175 gross (before taxes) (PTF/Seasonal staff only) for staff hired for half day camps (Tennis, Sports, Nature)

Registration discount to Herndon Odyssey camp
** for age‑eligible children of temporary or PTF employees who are working directly to support the summer camp program(s). Including Camp counselors, Head Counselors, Directors and Assistant Directors, Camp Administrator for science, nature, dance, tennis, Odyssey, and Teen Discovery camps. Contracted camp staff not included.

Can apply for up to 2 children
*** of the staff member, 25% discount off the resident rate; only during employee’s scheduled work weeks; enrollment maximums apply, pre‑registration required. Includes foster, step, natural, custodial children or eligible sibling.

Discount of 25% off resident rate per session = $50 savings plus resident rate benefit.

Specialty camps are not included (tennis, contracted camps, sports, nature, etc)
