Purpose

Perform comprehensive inspection services for stormwater management facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Direction – Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional and follow established procedures. Receive direction on all aspects of assignments; work is thoroughly reviewed by senior staff to ensure application of sound techniques and principles.
  • Operational and Company Level – Foster and maintain positive client relationships and represent the firm in a professional manner.
  • Do the Work
    • Perform stormwater inspection services for stormwater management (SWM), best management practice (BMP), low impact design (LID), and green infrastructure (GI) facilities.
    • Inspect stormwater conveyance channels and storm structures.
    • Conduct construction inspections for SWM/BMP retrofit projects, stream restoration projects, and outfall stabilization projects.
    • Perform Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC), Virginia Stormwater Management Permit (VSMP), and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections for various project types and sizes.
    • Document and process inspection photos, forms, and field measurements.
    • Prepare inspection reports and maintain files regarding inspection and plan check activities and findings.
    • Oversee, inspect, and monitor contractual field work, including earthwork, drainage, and incidental construction.
    • Coordinate with project contractors and job superintendents; verify and coordinate pay items.
    • Oversee and enforce installation and maintenance of erosion and sediment controls and safety devices.
    • Ensure construction aligns with project plans and specifications.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Entry-level position; no experience necessary (knowledge of engineering, construction, and/or inspection fields preferred).
  • State certification from the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) within 6 months is required (ESC, SWIN, and/or Dual Inspector); company-paid.
  • Working skills in operating computer equipment, software programs, and field inspection equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and hold a valid state driver’s license with a motor vehicle check.
  • General knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and methods applicable to municipal settings; working knowledge of laws, standards, and regulations related to construction, inspection, safety, and traffic control.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents; apply material testing procedures; maintain inspection data, reports, and systems; perform mathematical computations.
