Bowman has an opportunity for a Senior Stormwater Management Inspector to join our team in Farifax, VA.

Purpose

Perform comprehensive inspection services for stormwater management facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Direction
    • Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional following established procedures and processes. Receive direction on all aspects of assignments and work is reviewed by senior staff to ensure quality and correct application of techniques.
  • At the Operational And Company Level
    • Foster and maintain positive client relationships and represent the firm professionally.
  • Do the Work
    • Perform stormwater inspection services for SWM, BMP, LID, and GI facilities.
    • Inspect stormwater conveyance channels and structures.
    • Conduct construction inspections for SWM/BMP retrofit projects, stream restoration, and outfall stabilizations.
    • Inspect ESC, VSMP, and SWPPP for various project types.
    • Document and process inspection photos, forms, and field measurements.
    • Prepare inspection reports and maintain files.
    • Oversee and monitor contractual field work, including earthwork, drainage, and incidental construction.
    • Communicate and coordinate with project contractors and superintendents.
    • Verify and coordinate pay items.
    • Enforce installation and maintenance of erosion and sediment controls and safety devices.
    • Ensure construction aligns with project plans and specifications.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in engineering, construction, and/or inspection; relevant experience may be considered.
  • State certification from DEQ (ESC, SWIN, or Dual Inspector) within 6 months required; company paid.
  • Computer and field inspection equipment proficiency.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Valid state driver’s license and pass a motor vehicle check.
  • General knowledge of civil engineering principles applicable to municipal settings.
  • Understanding of applicable laws, standards, and regulations for construction, inspection, safety, and traffic control.
  • Skill in reading construction drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents; applying material testing procedures.
  • Ability to perform required mathematical computations.
  • Knowledge of surveying, construction materials, and techniques relevant to the work environment.

Physical Demands and Working Environment
  • Primarily outdoor work in varying weather, rugged terrain, and potential hazards.
  • Mobility requirements include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and wearing PPE.
  • Use of data collection equipment and/drones, requiring extended walking over assigned study areas.
  • Primarily local travel; occasional out‑of‑area and overnight travel may be required.
  • Occasional indoor office environment with noise, light variations, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds, pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds, and reaching above shoulder.
