Position: Sr. DC Design Manager for Region (AMER), DCDE - AMER (AWS)

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Sr. Regional Design Manager to join its design team. This role is part of a global engineering leadership team comprised of experienced architects and engineers responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS data center facilities worldwide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent DC designs while maintaining high levels of quality within budget and schedule.
  • Influence internal stakeholders, internal customers (operations), and external consultants to address program‑wide design changes.
  • Manage escalations and identify multi‑disciplinary design decisions.
  • Oversee design development, design change management, permitting (working with AHJs), and implementation (working with CMs/RFIs/Submittals) throughout the lifecycle.
  • Apply project management skills, including critical path schedule management, risk management, quality management, and cost management.
  • Manage design consultant procurement, contracting, deliverable management, and payments.
  • Communicate consistently with AWS Leadership and external project partners, including creation, tracking, and reporting of metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Conversant in Amazon Leadership Principles.
  • Manage competing priorities and drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework loops, reducing and automating manual work through standardization and automation.
  • Create global best‑practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the globe.
  • Motivate others to achieve impeccable quality in an explosive growth and deadline‑driven environment.
  • Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction reviews, and interfacing with design consultants (anticipated travel not to exceed 25%; international travel may be required).
A Day in the Life
  • Lead design team meetings to coordinate cross‑disciplinary decisions.
  • Review and approve design documents and changes.
  • Manage consultant deliverables and performance.
  • Respond to technical escalations from various teams.
  • Collaborate with procurement and construction teams on implementation.
  • Coordinate with AHJs for permitting requirements.
  • Track project metrics for schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Create and update best‑practice documentation.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings.
  • Conduct site assessments and construction reviews.
  • Manage critical path schedules and risk mitigation.
  • Mentor team members on design standards.
  • Analyze design optimization opportunities.
  • Review RFIs and submittal responses.
Basic Qualifications
  • 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
  • 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range: $136,600 – $184,800 annually in Herndon, VA and $136,600 – $184,800 annually in Seattle, WA.

Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
