Overview

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We’re the people who keep the cloud running, supporting all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the innovations they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and are looking for talented people to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of design engineers, quality/reliability engineers, supply chain specialists, field engineers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with teams across AWS to deliver the highest standards for quality and reliability while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. You’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

In this role
, you will lead internal and external engagements with engineering, procurement, supply chain management, operations, finance, construction, and suppliers to deliver robust and resilient quality systems at our vendors and within AWS. You will identify supplier quality defects or waste in AWS processes and drive new processes to eliminate defects and prevent recurrence without compromising availability.

The AWS Infrastructure Reliability and Quality (IRQ) organization provides quality and reliability support for the critical equipment used in our data centers throughout their lifecycle. A critical piece of this support is ensuring the highest level of initial quality and ongoing support from our vendors. Our Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for supplier qualifications, quality monitoring at supplier sites, supplier quality issue resolution, and supplier development and quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Supplier Quality roadmap for complex electrical and/or mechanical infrastructure equipment to meet technical and quality requirements.
  • Manage complete equipment lifecycle quality, working closely with suppliers, engineering, procurement, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Improve equipment quality by identifying and closing gaps through on-site audits to ensure suppliers  quality systems, products, and processes meet AWS quality and product specification requirements.
  • Drive Supplier Quality Improvement Programs and track supplier performance with KPI goal settings.
  • Develop critical-to-quality parameters, perform critical-to-quality inspections and functional testing for complex equipment to ensure defect-free, high-quality equipment for AWS and its customers.
  • Review historical failures, equipment design changes, and lessons learned to update inspections, tests, and equipment specifications.
  • Lead complex electrical and mechanical equipment and critical component root cause analyses with suppliers and cross-functional teams (reliability and design engineering).
  • Evaluate and validate complex root cause analysis reports from a technical perspective using quality principles.
  • Develop new product and/or supplier qualification plans in terms of quality; drive the quality program from prototyping to mass production for complex electrical and mechanical equipment in AWS data centers.
  • Analyze failures, create technical reports, and provide design and specification improvement inputs to drive improvements at supplier factories.
  • Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
  • Demonstrate a can-do attitude and thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Display sound judgment and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • This role requires 30-50% travel (international and domestic).
