Sr Supplier Quality Engineer, Infrastructure Reliability & Quality Engineer

Job  | Amazon Data Services, Inc.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to innovation. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost. You’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

The AWS Field Engineering organization provides engineering support for our data centers throughout their lifecycle. A critical piece of this support is ensuring the highest level of initial quality and ongoing support from our vendors. As a Supplier Quality Engineer you will interface daily with AWS Engineering teams, Procurement teams, and vendors to manage infrastructure equipment quality. Our Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for supplier qualifications, quality monitoring at supplier sites, supplier quality issue resolution and supplier development and quality improvement initiatives.

If you want to be a part of a team that has a daily impact on company success, this is a great opportunity for you.

In this role you will lead internal and external engagements with engineering, procurement, supply chain management, operations, finance, construction, and suppliers to deliver robust and resilient quality systems at our vendors and within AWS. You will identify supplier quality defects or waste in AWS processes, and drive new processes to eliminate the defects and prevent them from recurring without posing risk to availability.

In this role your responsibilities include:

  • Develop, implement and maintain the Supplier Quality roadmap for complex electrical and/or mechanical infrastructure equipment to meet the technical and quality requirements.
  • Manage complete equipment lifecycle quality, working closely with suppliers, engineering, procurement and other internal stakeholders.
  • Improve equipment quality by identifying and closing gaps through on-site audits to ensure suppliers' quality systems, products, and processes meet AWS Quality and product specification requirements.
  • Drive Supplier Quality Improvement Programs and track supplier performance with KPIs.
  • Develop critical to quality parameters, perform critical-to-quality inspections and functional testing for complex equipment to ensure defect-free, high-quality equipment to AWS and its customers.
  • Review historical failures, design changes and lessons learned to update inspections, tests and equipment specifications.
  • Lead root cause analyses of complex electrical and mechanical infrastructure equipment and critical components with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
  • Evaluate and validate complex root cause analysis reports from a technical perspective using quality principles.
  • Develop new product and supplier qualification plans for quality and drive the quality program from prototyping to mass production for complex equipment in AWS data centers.
  • Perform data analysis on failures reported during the equipment life cycle and generate technical reports to drive improvements at supplier factories.
  • Work on concurrent projects, sometimes across multiple geographical regions.
  • Demonstrate a can-do attitude and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Apply sound judgment and communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
  • This role requires 30-50% international and domestic travel.
