Position Overview

The Senior Commissioning Manager leads GC-side commissioning strategy and execution for large-scale hyperscale and mission-critical data center projects. This role is responsible for integrating commissioning into all phases of construction, coordinating trade partners and third-party commissioning agents, and ensuring systems are delivered safely, reliably, and in alignment with Owner requirements and hyperscale standards.

This position serves as a senior technical and leadership role within the project team, supporting complex, multi-building campus developments with phased turnover, aggressive milestone schedules, and owner-driven commissioning programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead GC-side commissioning execution for hyperscale data center campus projects, including greenfield builds and phased expansions.
  • Serve as the commissioning authority within the GC project team, coordinating owners, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and third-party commissioning agents.
  • Integrate commissioning activities into overall construction schedules, milestones, and turnover planning.
  • Provide technical leadership for commissioning of mission-critical MEP, controls, and electrical power systems.
  • Lead early commissioning engagement during design and preconstruction to support constructability, reliability, and schedule certainty.
  • Oversee review and alignment of Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) and Basis of Design (BOD) with construction execution.
  • Direct review of equipment submittals related to critical infrastructure, including electrical distribution, mechanical systems, and controls.
  • Oversee development and execution of commissioning plans, installation checklists, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing (IST).
  • Lead and witness Level 1–5 commissioning activities in coordination with commissioning agents and trade partners.
  • Manage startup, testing, and validation activities for critical systems, ensuring readiness for phased turnover and beneficial occupancy.
  • Identify and resolve commissioning risks, issues, and conflicts that could impact safety, reliability, or schedule.
  • Lead commissioning coordination meetings and turnover discussions with owners and internal leadership.

Oversee review and acceptance of O&M documentation, training programs, and closeout deliverables.
  • Author and approve final commissioning and system readiness reports.
  • Support continuous improvement of GC commissioning standards, processes, and best practices across hyperscale programs.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of commissioning experience on large, complex mission-critical projects; hyperscale data centers strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience leading GC-side commissioning efforts on multi-building or campus-style data center projects.
Deep technical expertise in:
  • Electrical power systems (UPS, generators, MV/LV switch gear, distribution)
  • Mechanical systems supporting critical environments
  • Controls systems and integration (BMS / EPMS)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline preferred OR equivalent combination of education and extensive hyperscale commissioning experience.
  • Commissioning certifications (ACG, BCxA, ASHRAE) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of hyperscale delivery models, phased turnover strategies, and owner-driven commissioning requirements.
  • Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors, vendors, and third-party commissioning agents.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and risk management skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, schedule-driven construction environments.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Project Sight, and enterprise commissioning platforms.
  • Willingness to travel as required to support active project sites.
