Why This is an Exciting Role:

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) seeks an experienced Systems Engineer to join our team in Herndon, VA to design and maintain system architectures, program requirements, interface specifications, and system testing as an integrated part of our agile teams and contribute across the entire product lifecycle.

Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. Evaluates customer and operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.

Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success. Develops the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes. Resolves cross-functional technical issues.

• Support and lead requirements management, development, analyses, decomposition, allocation, testing, validation, and verification, as well as systems architecture, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and CONOPS development.
• Partner with subject matter experts and technology experts in understanding technology development and integration into current state and future goals for increased functionality, performance, testability, verification, and validation.
• Support and lead the definition of functional architecture and modeling needs and coordinate efforts across teams to meet deliverables and program milestones.
• Interface with customers and program management and leadership for systems engineering and integration and test team.
• Participate in all aspects of systems engineering for current and future phases of program with design, qualification, and eventually production (womb to tomb).
• Follow and implement best practices throughout all facets of systems engineering, integration, and test, to understand intent and to ensure successful product development and production.
• Actively participate in mentoring program for systems engineers to instill cross functional skills in systems engineering, integration, and test, in junior engineers.
• Ability and willingness to work occasional compensated ad hoc support outside of typical business hours.
