Your Role And Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities
  • Ensuring 100% compliance with applicable environmental laws/regulations and with IBM’s environmental remediation‑related permits, orders, directives, and legal agreements
  • Oversight and administration of all aspects of groundwater, soil, and vapor remediation/mitigation conducted by IBM’s contractors/consultants at a variety of sites
  • Managing IBM’s remediation infrastructure and assets in a proactive, cost-effective, responsible, and environmentally conscious manner
  • Project and portfolio-level budgeting, financial management, contracting, and preparation of financial assurance instruments and 30-year environmental accrual estimates
  • Environmental reporting (external and internal) and establishing and collecting metrics
  • Maintaining environmental records and documents per IBM’s Recordkeeping Policy
  • Consulting with IBM Legal and senior remediation staff as needed to resolve complex environmental legal matters
  • Preparing oral and written reports/presentations for Management
  • Preparing internal procedures and Corporate Instructions
  • Supporting the deployment of AI and other new technologies to streamline our sustainability programs
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Assist in commissioning and evaluating environmental due diligence reports to support property transactions, mergers, and acquisitions.
  • Assist in directing the response and determining corrective actions to resolve or remedy environmental incidents
  • Assist in the evaluation of secondary containment systems for liquids
  • Assist in the tracking, reporting, and auditing of metrics associated with other IBM corporate sustainability programs as needed
Preferred Education

Master's Degree

Required Technical And Professional Expertise
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Sustainability, or a related field
  • Academic training or experience in the environmental remediation (groundwater/soil/vapor) field, with knowledge/training in investigations, monitoring, treatment, and various remedial techniques
  • Knowledge of the principles of chemistry, engineering, and hydrogeology as they relate to remediation
  • Strong strategic thinking, data analysis, and project management skills; able to manage multiple priorities and provide sound recommendations to senior leadership
  • Excellent written / oral communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across diverse internal and external teams
  • Highly collaborative, adaptable, and willing to support broader sustainability initiatives aligned with IBM’s mission to innovate using advanced technologies
Preferred Technical And Professional Experience
  • Knowledge of key federal environmental laws and programs, including but not limited to RCRA, CERCLA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, etc.
  • Experience with Environmental Management Systems
  • Experience conducting or reviewing Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments
  • Experience in environmental incident and chemical management
  • HAZWOPER, RCRA, and/or DOT certifications
  • Professional credentials, such as Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies such as quantum computing, AI, and hybrid cloud
