Operations Manager, Electrical Engineering
We are seeking a passionate and motivated construction cost estimating manager to lead a team of estimators working at a global level to provide cost estimates for conceptual designs, products, and new region expansion projects.
The ideal candidate is innovative, analytical and knowledgeable of the global construction market with a strong knowledge of core systems integral to the construction of data centers and their associated costs. You should have a bias toward automation and a track record of creating benchmarks and metrics to support valid estimates. You pay attention to detail and solve problems at their root.
You have experience managing remote team members and ability to communicate with senior level management.
You will be involved in the pre-construction phases of new regions and overseeing cost estimates for new data center designs working with highly motivated experts from design, construction, procurement, finance and legal teams.
You will be working in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. You must be flexible and adapt well to a wide range of tasks and technologies. You will help drive multi‑million dollar projects utilizing Amazon Leadership principles including frugality and insist on the highest standards. It is expected that your leadership skills and technical knowledge demonstrates both depth and breadth.
Leveraging the strengths of individual team members and delegating tasks appropriately within the group for long term projects will all be critical tasks for this role.
- Leading and developing a global team of estimators providing accurate cost analysis and market data to key stakeholders
- Developing tools and templates for various levels of estimates and project types including risk assessments
- Developing and improving cost performance metrics in comparison to estimate to drive continuous improvements for estimate accuracy
- Developing processes and tools to manage revision control of scope and costs for new designs and innovations
- Supporting non‑construction related professionals develop and understand budgets for initiatives that include construction aspects
- Developing tools and metrics to quickly and accurately provide multiple geoparity pricing scenarios
- 4+ years of general contractor and vendor management work (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution experience
- Experience hiring, developing, and managing high‑performing technical teams
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Structural, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA
- Experience with large‑scale technical operations or large‑scale compute farms
- Experience with process improvement techniques such as Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma
- 5+ years of general contractor and vendor management work (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
