Senior Design Manager – AWS Infrastructure Services

AWS Infrastructure Services leads the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS’s global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the equipment that keeps the cloud running. As a Senior Design Manager, you will be part of a global engineering leadership team, driving design direction, improving delivery processes, and collaborating with internal and external partners across AWS.

• Lead cross‑disciplinary teams to deliver quality and globally consistent data center designs across the Americas within schedule and cost constraints.
• Influence internal stakeholders, operations teams, and external consultants to address program‑wide design changes.
• Manage design‑team escalations, coordinating with procurement, construction, and external consultants.
• Communicate with AWS leadership and project partners, creating, tracking, and reporting metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality throughout the project lifecycle.
• Develop innovative solutions to reduce contract change orders while maintaining quality and reliability.
• Drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework loops, automating manual tasks, and implementing best practices.
• Create global best‑practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the organization.
• Motivate others to achieve high quality in a growth‑driven, deadline‑oriented environment.
• Travel for site assessments and design meetings, with anticipated travel not exceeding 25% (international travel may be required).

• 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil and gas).
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in project management or consulting, handling multiple ongoing projects.
• Experience with life‑cycle design projects from strategy through execution.

• Professional Engineering or Architectural license.
• Knowledge of regional building codes and regulations.
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and production.
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
• 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.

Base salary range: 136,600 – 184,800 USD annually (VA); 136,600 – 184,800 USD annually (WA). The compensation package includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units, as well as a comprehensive benefits program covering health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement, paid time off, and parental leave.
