Job Overview

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

Amazon Web Services is seeking a Regional Design Manager to join its design team. As a Sr. Regional Design Manager, you will be part of a global engineering leadership team comprised of highly effective Architects, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Security, and Control Engineers. You will help design the direction and improve delivery for an entire region, establishing design procedures and protocols for future systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent DC designs while maintaining a high level of quality within budget and schedule.
  • Influence internal stakeholders, internal customers (operations), and external consultants to address program‑wide design changes.
  • Manage escalations.
  • Identify multidisciplinary design decisions.
  • Understand design development, design change management, permitting (working with AHJs), and implementation (working with CMs/RFIs/Submittals) lifecycle.
  • Project management skills including critical path schedule management, risk management, quality management, and cost management.
  • Design consultant management including procurement, contracting, deliverable management, and payments.
  • Effectively and consistently communicate with AWS Leadership and external project partners, including creation, tracking, and reporting of metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Conversant in Amazon LPs.
  • Manage competing priorities.
  • Drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework loops, reducing and automating manual work through standardization and automation.
  • Create global best practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the globe.
  • Motivate others to achieve impeccable quality in an explosive growth and deadline‑driven environment.
  • Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%; international travel may be needed.
A Day in the Life
  • Lead design team meetings to coordinate cross‑disciplinary decisions.
  • Review and approve design documents and changes.
  • Manage consultant deliverables and performance.
  • Respond to technical escalations from various teams.
  • Collaborate with procurement and construction teams on implementation.
  • Coordinate with AHJs for permitting requirements.
  • Track project metrics for schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Create and update best practice documentation.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings.
  • Conduct site assessments and construction reviews.
  • Manage critical‑path schedules and risk mitigation.
  • Mentor team members on design standards.
  • Analyze design optimization opportunities.
  • Review RFIs and submittal responses.
Basic Qualifications
  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities including data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
  • 4+ years of commissioning experience.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment or design related to data center electrical and mechanical topology.
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Experience with building codes and regulations for the region.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

The base salary range for this position is  –  USD annually. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
