As an Amazon Fleet Remediation Data Center Retrofit Mechanical Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers that remediate issues, upgrade existing infrastructure, or add new services. You will serve as the primary engineering resource for these projects and provide lifecycle support from design through implementation.
Responsibilities- Own the design for existing data center upgrades and design solutions that add infrastructure, capacity, improve availability, and/or increase sustainability.
- Perform design and equipment submittal review for data centers in your region.
- Interface with internal and external engineering teams (data center design, server hardware, environmental health and safety, field engineering, controls engineering) to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability.
- Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
- Act as a technical subject‑matter expert for your discipline during remediation projects.
- Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover activities.
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission‑critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas.
- Strong engineering judgment and ability to provide design recommendations despite uncertainty.
- Detail and data‑oriented mindset with familiarity in design and construction processes.
- Experience managing engineering projects and consulting engagements.
- Experience building and reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment or designs related to data center electrical and mechanical topology.
- Knowledge of redundant electrical systems, cooling systems, air‑flow containment, and building management systems.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer license (preferred).
- Experience with regional building codes and regulations.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Base salary range: $ – $ USD annually (location: Herndon, VA).
