Mechanical Engineer
Engineers at Amazon design resilient, cost‑effective mechanical distribution systems to achieve world‑class uptime for our customers. Engineers justify and communicate technical decisions to senior management, drive continuous improvements, and support the entire design cycle from concept through permit, construction documentation, and commissioning. Engineers take ownership of mechanical design, constructability, site selection, utilities coordination, code compliance, equipment specification, submittal review, and post‑construction support.
Keyjob responsibilities
- Work with internal teams to understand user requirements.
- Develop data center mechanical designs and collaborate with other disciplines to create a construction document set.
- Create designs that meet or exceed quality requirements and stay within budget.
- Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical equipment.
- Work with local utilities to define site utility requirements.
- Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with city/county requirements and building codes.
- Review and approve equipment submittals.
- Define project scopes and provide technical support for information requests during construction phases.
- Work with commissioning teams to validate installation, operation, and performance of mechanical systems.
- Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
- Travel to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers, engineering evaluations, mechanical systems audits, and startup as needed.
- Provide creative, out‑of‑the‑box solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- NETA or ASHRAE certification or commissioning‑specific education courses.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission‑critical facilities, especially data centers.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
- Experience using a variety of web‑based and other software tools for calculation and data processing.
