About the Role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. Within AIS and Data Center Engineering, the Mechanical Solutions team drives rapid innovation in Mechanical Cooling and Controls systems used by AWS.
This role provides the opportunity to engage with and lead the Sustaining or Product Lifecycle Engineering aspect for these advanced cloud infrastructure solutions.
- Possess strong engineering judgement and provide recommendations despite uncertainty
- Be detail and data oriented
- Have experience in Mechanical Engineering and/or Mechanical Products
- Review, update, and approve equipment submittals
- Work with global mechanical equipment suppliers and manufacturers
- Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., reliability, operations, design, compliance)
- Work on concurrent projects, in multiple geographic zones
- Understand and explain complex systems in clear and concise language
- Support Operations including failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance and troubleshooting support, and operating procedure review for both mechanical and electrical issues.
- Listen to the voice of the customer to identify improvements that increase product reliability or availability
- Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to design product improvements and oversee root cause analysis
- Contribute to our global body of knowledge and drive a cycle of continuous improvement at a global scale
Intermittent travel (approximately 30%) will be necessary; most travel will be domestic, with occasional international travel.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Knowledge of critical data center or mission critical mechanical and electrical equipment and hands‑on experience troubleshooting mechanical components and systems
- 8+ years of experience developing Mechanical and/or Mechanical Cooling Products and launching them into production
- 8+ years of project experience with cooling systems or components
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management and related systems
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
- Ability to design for manufacturability, create assembly specifications, and work with contract manufacturers and OEMs
Base salary range: USA, OH, Columbus – – USD annually
Base salary range: USA, TX, Austin – – USD annually
Base salary range: USA, VA, Herndon – – USD annually
Base salary range: USA, WA, Seattle – – USD annually
