Sr Mechanical Engineer - MEP

Position Overview

We are working with a leading Mechanical Contractor in the Reston VA area to find an experienced Sr Mechanical Engineer - MEP. The client is one of the leading mechanical contractors in the eastern United States, with experience in commercial and government projects such as data centers, hospitals, laboratories, wastewater treatment plants, convention centers, and hotels. Their expertise lies in mechanical piping, plumbing, and HVAC / sheet metal projects.

We need a well‑qualified, energetic Design Engineer P.E. who will focus on mechanical design–related activities, including performing calculations, selecting equipment, and supporting the development of construction documents (drawings, specifications, and fieldwork such as existing condition surveys, progress field reports, and project close‑out punch lists). The Design Engineer P.E. will plan, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the activities of direct reports and mentor junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform calculations and analysis to support design decisions and ensure mechanical or system integrity.
  • Develop and implement engineering solutions for projects in support of Project Operations and various site locations, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Review, interpret, and provide technical guidance on contract specifications, plans, and the Engineer of Record recommendations.
  • Oversee engineering projects from inception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource coordination.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, project operations, architects, contractors, and clients to meet project specifications and timelines.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Ensure all designs and engineering work adhere to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Provide expertise in troubleshooting, design modifications, or system improvements as required.
Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university program.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure, with ongoing renewal through continuing education and professionalism requirements.
  • Significant working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing financial and accounting practices.
  • Significant technical knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals, applications, construction contract language, and terms.
