Sr. Architect, Data Center Engineering

Job Overview

AWS Infrastructure Services owns design, planning, delivery and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The Senior Architect will work with a global engineering team on implementation, technical evaluation, and continuous innovation of an expanding data‑center footprint.

• Design and implement architectural systems for data centers, collaborating with electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, telecommunications and other disciplines.
• Develop BIM (Revit) models and support continuous improvement through data analysis and system optimization.
• Conceive, initiate, and lead projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation and implementation.
• Decompose complex problems into straightforward actionable solutions.
• Understand user requirements, collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders across cultures and countries.
• Escalate issues as required and communicate effectively at appropriate levels.
• Produce clear documentation such as design specifications, white papers, schematics, diagrams, and reports.
• Safeguard implementation of the Architectural Basis of Design (BOD) with constant auditing.
• Drive standardization in the data‑center architectural space.
• Develop strategic solutions that meet or exceed quality and stay within budget.
• Capture requirements and translate company or customer goals into testable specifications.
• Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests in R&D projects.
• Provide technical support on global Large‑Scale Events (LSEs), including deep dives, investigations and mitigation plans.
• Work on concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
• Maintain and host technical architectural forums for collaborative development.
• Provide support and mentorship for the data‑center engineering community.
• Promote creativity and offer out‑of‑the‑box solutions.

• 6+ years of data‑center design, construction, operations or facility maintenance experience.
• 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil and gas).
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
• Knowledge of critical data‑center mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Experience researching new designs, technologies and construction methods for data‑center facilities.
• 4+ years of project management or project‑lead work including RFQ/RFP, selecting engineering teams, budgeting, coordinating consultants and facilitating meetings.
• Experience with CAD/BIM tools (AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, Solid Works, CREO, BIM
  360, Sketch Up, Key Shot, etc.) to deliver high‑quality models and designs.

• Professional Engineering or Architectural license.
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations for the relevant region.
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development and deployment (mass production).
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications and submittal documents.
