Amazon Web Services is hiring a Product Design Electrical Engineer with Medium Voltage Switchgear and/or Medium Voltage Transformer experience for our Electrical Products and Services team. This team is a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation for products used within our rapidly expanding data center footprint.
The Electrical Products and Services team works to design and develop resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution products and systems. As an engineer at Amazon, you are responsible for achieving world‑class uptime for our customers, driving continuous advancements and improvements with your designs, and communicating technical direction to senior leadership.

As a product engineer you will work on product designs and support our wide variety of customers, and ingenuity is central to our focus on quality, speed, and cost.
Teamwork is essential for achieving our goals. You must work within a team and depend on others. As a product engineer, you will collaborate with internal groups and external groups including engineering service providers, manufacturers, vendors, inspectors, third‑party testing labs and contractors.
Amazon has a global presence. Travel will be necessary but should not exceed 30%. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel may be necessary. Your contributions could include leading international projects and developing engineering information packages. An understanding of international electrical product design requirements is helpful but not necessary.
Key job responsibilities- Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements.
- Lead new product design, development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS datacenters, focusing on MV switch gear and transformers and connections to LV switch gear.
- Develop Capex and Opex spending budgets accounting for vendor, prototyping, testing and tooling needs.
- Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment, ensuring tier 2‑3 supply chain resiliency.
- Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
- Validate design through prototype, pre‑production and first‑of‑kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis and updating design and documentation.
- Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
- Provide support for manufacturing activities for new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
- Lead within the product development team and across internal and external teams that support the data center.
