Join a diverse, dynamic, and enthusiastic team of environmental professionals who play a leading role in environmental permitting and compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS). The Regional Environmental Engineers support AWS’s global expansion and ensure compliance of all AWS facilities worldwide.

Responsibilities
  • Assess environmental risks and requirements and develop mitigations and strategies to support data center siting and development strategies and site-specific project delivery.
  • Lead the technical aspects of environmental due diligence, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, regulatory and permitting evaluations, natural, biological and cultural resource evaluations, and noise assessments.
  • Deliver environmental permits, approvals, and plans to enable on-time and compliant construction and operations for new data center locations and expansion of existing sites.
  • Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners.
  • Coordinate with partner teams (Real Estate, Design, Water, Legal, Risk, Power, etc.) to optimize site designs considering natural resource or operational constraints.
  • Develop site development and permitting strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable while meeting project timelines.
  • Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations in support of environmental permit acquisition and regional development strategies.
  • Develop detailed compliance plans for environmental permits.
  • Develop, manage and track metrics to evaluate project success and compliance status.
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience delivering multi-media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance projects with expertise in CWA 404 and NPDES permitting, groundwater protection, wastewater discharge, and natural and cultural resource evaluations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience delivering multi-media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance for existing sites and new development.
  • 7+ years of experience conducting environmental due diligence for greenfield and brownfield sites, including Phase I and Phase II ESAs and support for investigative and remedial activities.
  • At least 3 years of project or task management experience for environmental permitting and/or due diligence projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in multiple states within the US (preferably in VA, MD, PA).
  • Data center or critical infrastructure due diligence, design, construction, and/or risk assessment experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing and/or supporting community and public interactions.
  • Experience with Smartsheets or other project management software.
  • Up to 25% travel.
  • Experience working with large teams on a diverse slate of projects.
