Description

Amazon Web Services is seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer to become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint.

Engineers at Amazon design resilient, cost‑effective electrical distribution systems that achieve world class uptime for our customers. Engineers justify and communicate technical decisions to senior management, driving continuous improvements with their designs. As an engineer you have the ability to drive change and define the systems our customers rely on.

We are looking for substation engineers with hands‑on electrical design experience. If you can design a substation and understand the critical needs of a data center and its relationship to substation engineering, you may be a good fit.

As part of our expansion team, you will be responsible for taking designs from concept to permit and construction documents, defining critical equipment specifications, approving submittals, and supporting construction from site selection through commissioning and turnover. You will be a subject‑matter expert in electrical engineering, support learning opportunities, and focus on employee development.

Travel to our Seattle head office and other sites is required (up to 20% of your time). International support and some international travel may be necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Lead within the group and across internal and external teams that support the data center.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand user requirements.
  • Participate in site selection reviews.
  • Develop data center substation electrical designs and collaborate with other disciplines to create construction document sets.
  • Create designs that meet or exceed quality requirements and stay within budget.
  • Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment.
  • Work with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes.
  • Review and approve equipment submittals.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests during construction phases.
  • Work with commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Visit sites for reviews and work with onsite field engineers, providing engineering evaluations, electrical system audits and startup as needed.
  • Bring creative, out‑of‑the‑box solutions to the team.
