Senior Product Design Electrical Engineer
Senior Product Design Electrical Engineer focused on Busduct and/or Tap-Off Box (TOB) experience in AWS’s Electrical Products and Services team. This role is part of AWS Infrastructure Services, which owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The Electrical Products and Services team designs and develops resilient, cost‑effective electrical distribution products and systems that support AWS data centers worldwide.
Key Responsibilities- Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
- Lead new product design, development and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS data centers with a primary focus on busduct systems and tap‑off boxes (TOBs) and connecting dependencies with LV switch gear, power distribution cabinets, and rack‑level power delivery.
- Develop Capex and Opex spending budgets taking into account development costs with vendors, prototyping needs, testing and specialized tooling requirements.
- Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate busduct and TOB components, ensuring tier 2‑3 supply chain resiliency.
- Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
- Validate design through prototype, pre‑production and first‑of‑kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis through each step and updating design and documentation.
- Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of busduct and TOB products.
- Provide support for manufacturing activities for the new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
Travel will be necessary but should not exceed 30% of the time; occasional international travel may be required to support projects and develop engineering information packages.
Basic Qualifications- 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience developing solutions and executing plans on complex projects.
- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities including but not limited to data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
