Senior Mech Product Design Engineer, Data Center Eng, Mechanical Products and Services
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, supporting data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will design resilient, cost‑effective mechanical systems for a rapidly expanding data center footprint. The role can be based in Seattle, WA, or Herndon, VA.
Key Job Responsibilities- Work in a cross-disciplinary setting with the ability to influence and drive others.
- Advise peer engineers and the management team.
- Deep‑dive and perform root cause analysis.
- Make technical trade‑offs between short‑term project goals and long‑term business needs.
- Develop integrated systems extending the life of data center infrastructure products.
- Simplify, optimize, and lower costs of data center mechanical and associated sub‑components.
- Collaborate with internal and external ecosystem partners to design and develop new data center product solutions.
- Support field engineering and data center operation teams for root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Leverage economy of scale through standardization and modularization of data center products.
- Provide technical subject‑matter expertise to peers, senior management, and partner teams.
- Develop business justification and narratives to promote new concepts and ideas.
- Lead key initiatives for the organization while demonstrating complete ownership.
- Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical and associated sub‑components.
- Provide product design support to other team members.
- Write functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- Travel domestically and internationally for up to 25% of the year as needed.
- 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission‑critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
Base salary range: $136,600 – $184,800 USD annually (Seattle, WA) and $136,600 – $184,800 USD annually (Herndon, VA). Your total package may include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
