Permits Manager for Region, DC Design Engineering

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In this role you will collaborate with a global engineering leadership team and regulatory agencies to manage permits for data center projects worldwide. Your work will support the safety, security, and reliable operation of AWS data centers, helping us deliver capacity at the lowest possible cost to our customers.
Key Responsibilities- Identify and own all permits associated with the design, construction, and operation of data centers in existing and new jurisdictions.
- Coordinate between internal and external project development teams to develop a permitting plan and manage its execution, ensuring all partner teams complete required actions on time.
- Engage and partner with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) to identify opportunities to expedite permitting timelines.
- Introduce new projects to local jurisdictions and participate in local meetings and hearings related to these projects.
- Own and communicate project entitlement status across many teams and management levels.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks to the permitting process or timelines.
- Engage and manage permitting consultants and specialists when appropriate.
- Complete after-action reviews and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission‑critical facilities (e.g., data centers, power generation, oil and gas).
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
The base salary range for this position is $ – $ USD annually.
