Position Overview

Join a diverse, dynamic, and enthusiastic team of environmental professionals at Amazon Web Services (AWS) driving environmental permitting and compliance for data centers and infrastructure. As a Regional Environmental Engineer, you will enable AWS’s growth by ensuring regulatory compliance, leading environmental due diligence, and partnering with multiple AWS teams and external stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess environmental risks and develop mitigations and strategies to support data center siting and development.
  • Lead technical aspects of environmental due diligence, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, regulatory and permitting evaluations, natural, biological and cultural resource evaluations, and noise assessments.
  • Deliver environmental permits, approvals, and plans to enable on-time and compliant construction and operations for new data center locations and expansion of existing sites.
  • Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners.
  • Coordinate with partner teams (Real Estate, Design, Water, Legal, Risk, Power, etc.) to optimize site designs.
  • Develop site development and permitting strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable while meeting project timelines.
  • Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations in support of environmental permit acquisition and regional development strategies.
  • Develop, manage, and track metrics to evaluate project success.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience delivering multi-media environmental due diligence, permitting and compliance projects with expertise in CWA 404 and NPDES permitting, groundwater protection, wastewater discharge, and natural and cultural resource evaluations.
  • 7+ years experience conducting environmental due diligence for greenfield and brownfield sites.
  • At least 3 years of project or task management experience for environmental permitting and/or due diligence projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing large projects and multifunctional teams.
  • Data center or critical infrastructure due diligence, design, construction, and/or risk assessment experience.
  • Experience in multiple US states (preferably OH, IN, MO, KY, MI, IL, WI).
  • Experience managing and/or supporting community/public interactions.
  • Experience with Smartsheet or other project management software.
  • Up to 25% travel.
Compensation

USA, VA, Herndon –  –  USD annually.
USA, WA, Seattle –  –  USD annually.
