Description
Join a diverse, dynamic and enthusiastic team of environmental professionals who play a leading role in environmental permitting and compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS). The Regional Environmental Engineers team is critical to enabling AWS’s growth in the U.S. and around the world.
Key Job Responsibilities- Assess environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies to support data center siting and development.
- Lead technical aspects of environmental due diligence, including Phase I & II ESAs, regulatory and permitting evaluations, natural, biological and cultural resource evaluations, and noise assessments.
- Deliver environmental permits, approvals and plans to enable on‑time and compliant construction and operations for new data center locations and expansions of existing sites.
- Communicate environmental requirements, risks and activities to internal and external project partners.
- Coordinate with partner teams (Real Estate, Design, Water, Legal, Risk, Power, etc.) to optimize site designs considering natural resource or operational constraints.
- Develop site development and permitting strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable while meeting project timelines.
- Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations to support environmental permit acquisition and regional development strategies.
- Develop detailed compliance plans for environmental permits.
- Develop, manage and track metrics to evaluate project success and compliance status.
- Experience delivering multi‑media environmental due diligence, permitting and compliance projects with specific expertise in CWA 404 and NPDES permitting, groundwater protection, wastewater discharge and natural and cultural resource evaluations.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science or related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience delivering environmental due diligence and permitting for existing sites and new development, including Phase I & II ESAs, investigative and remedial activities.
- At least 3 years of project or task management experience for environmental permitting or due diligence projects.
- Experience in multiple U.S. states (preferably VA, MD, PA).
- Data center or critical infrastructure due diligence, design, construction and/or risk assessment experience.
- Experience managing and supporting community/public interactions.
- Experience with Smartsheets or other project management software.
- Up to 25% travel.
- Experience working with large teams on a diverse slate of projects.
