Sr. Product Design Mechanical Engineer, Data Center Engineering – Electrical Products and Services

Amazon Web Services is hiring a Senior Product Design Mechanical Engineer for our Electrical Products and Services Engineering team. The team designs and continuously innovates resilient, cost‑effective electrical distribution products and systems used throughout AWS data centers.

Key responsibilities

• Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define product design requirements.
• Lead the design, development, qualification and deployment of critical electrical power distribution equipment (e.g., LV and MV switch gear, power distribution cabinets and panels).
• Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC, federal, state and municipal codes and building regulations across multiple countries through testing and evaluation.
• Validate designs through prototype, pre‑production and first‑of‑kind builds, performing DFx and value‑engineering analyses and updating documentation.
• Collaborate with field engineering, commissioning teams, manufacturers, vendors and third‑party testing labs to test and validate installation, operation, and performance.
• Provide manufacturing support for new products across multiple geographical locations and lead international projects as needed.
• Act as a subject‑matter expert and lead within the product development team and broader internal and external groups.

Basic qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years leading new product design, development, testing and manufacturing support of electrical components, including low‑voltage switch gear and power distribution cabinets.
• Experience carrying design concepts from exploration through deployment or mass production.
• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical design codes (UL, CSA, IEC, etc.) and ability to test products in third‑party laboratories.
• Strong leadership, collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred qualifications

• Professional Engineering license.
• Knowledge of building codes and regulations for the region.
• Experience reading, interpreting and creating construction drawings, specifications and submittal documents.
• Experience with international electrical product design requirements.

Base salary range for this position: $136,600 – $184,800 annually (location dependent).

Travel:
Up to 30% international travel required for project support and managing engineering information packages.
