Amazon seeks a Sr. Controls Engineer to design, program, and optimize automation for data center capacity delivery in a high-growth retail and cloud environment. You will own PLC/SCADA controls architecture, integration, and commissioning for critical infrastructure, partnering with design, construction, and operations teams. You'll use data to improve reliability, efficiency, and scalability of global sites, drive standards and documentation, and lead root-cause analysis.
This role offers high ownership, complex technical challenges, and rapid impact in a customer-obsessed culture.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize controls systems for Amazon data center capacity delivery projects
- Develop, program, and troubleshoot PLCs, SCADA, and related automation systems
- Collaborate with design, construction, and operations teams to ensure reliable data center performance
- Analyze performance data to improve capacity, efficiency, and resiliency of critical infrastructure
- Create and maintain technical documentation, schematics, and standards for control systems
- Support commissioning, testing, and integration of new data center capacity
- Ensure compliance with safety, reliability, and industry standards for control systems
- Lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for system issues
- Contribute to process improvements and automation best practices across global sites
- Mentor junior engineers and share technical expertise across teams
Required Skills
- PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
- SCADA/HMI systems design and configuration
- Industrial control systems (ICS) and automation
- Data center infrastructure and critical power/mechanical systems
- Control system networking and industrial protocols (Modbus, BACnet, OPC)
- Instrumentation and control panel design
- Commissioning, testing, and startup of control systems
- Root cause analysis and reliability engineering
- Control systems documentation and CAD for schematics
- Data analysis for performance optimization
