Bridge Inspection Intern - Summer

Position Summary: An intern supports the assigned bridge inspection and design department by assisting with a variety of tasks, including special project assignments and active participation in project design and documentation, to gain practical experience and support their educational development.

Compensation is $22.00 - $27.00/hour, commensurate with education.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Assist senior or lead ( architects, engineers, inspectors, interior designers, project managers) with basic design tasks, including research, simple studies, and layout support
• Assist with field inspections of in-service structures and related documentation
• Help prepare drawings and documents for programming, schematic design, modeling, graphics, design development, and construction phases
• Support the creation of presentation and marketing materials
• Assist with construction phase activities, including participating in site visits, supporting RFI responses, reviewing shop drawings, and helping update record drawings
• Follow established quality control procedures and ask questions as needed
• Learn and apply department and company standards and best practices
• Develop basic design, analysis, and technical skills through hands-on experience
• Participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members
• Receive guidance and direction from supervisors and team leaders
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, interior designers, and other multidisciplinary team members

• Ability to prepare well organized, clear, and concise written materials

• Developing presentation skills, including communicating ideas to different groups
• Ability to manage time and workload effectively with guidance from supervisors
• Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate well with others

High school graduate or currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in a related field

Full-time student currently pursuing an ABET accredited undergraduate degree in civil engineering with an interest in bridge or transportation structures

Preferred Experience

• Coursework in a related field
• Previous internship or relevant work experience
• Familiarity with design and production software, with the ability to use these tools to develop project documents and collaborate with project team members

Work is performed in a general office environment and, for positions supporting field work, may include substantial time in the field. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Field and inspection work may be conducted outdoors in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions and on uneven terrain, and may require bending, kneeling, or standing, lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds, operating access equipment, and performing work at heights requiring fall protection.

Lighting and temperature within the office are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
